ROHM is expanding its lineup of AC/DC converter ICs. A series of 24 models in all has been prepared, mainly for applications at 25 W or less, enabling simpler design than was possible using previous ICs for the same applications, and satisfying all the requirements demanded of modern AC/DC converters. The high-functionality BM2Pxxx series, with an internal power MOSFET, resolve the issues of AC/DC converter design.
There are 24 models in the BM2Pxxx series lineup. They are made up of combinations of four parameters: "package type", "ON-resistance of internal MOSFET", "AC under voltage protection (BR: brownout)", and "operation with VCC over voltage protection (VCC OVP) enabled". By subdividing the device specifications in this way, an appropriate AC/DC converter can be design in accordance with the output power, footprint, and other application requirements.

The surface-mount SOP8 package devices have achieved an industry-first high power density of 8 W. This was possible because SJ MOSFETs with their low ON-resistances made smaller chip sizes feasible. The ICs of other manufacturers rated at 8 W use DIP7 or DIP8 packages, and so by using the BM2Pxxx series devices in applications at 8 W or lower, footprint can be reduced. In general, applications with low output power levels must be small in size. The BM2Pxxx series enables the engineer to select the IC that is a perfect fit for his application.
