ROHM has developed and begun online sales of a RAGU® Series of motor driver LSI evaluation tools, which greatly simplify motor evaluation, a process that requires considerable man-hours in the development of stepping motor applications. The RAGU Series consists of a main board, an option board, various DUT boards (evaluation boards) on which are mounted motor driver LSIs, and application software running on a PC to execute control. *"RAGU" is a registered trademark of ROHM.

Application Development

Motor applications have been trending upwards in recent years, becoming increasingly diverse and sophisticated. As a result, evaluations have become complex, and shortening development periods has become a major issue. For evaluation of stepping motors, normally a large number of measurement instruments and tools are needed, such as multiple power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators. ROHM has been developing motor driver LSIs for over three decades, and has drawn on this deep experience to develop new motor driver evaluation tools that resolve these problems. Using just a PC and a power supply, RAGU is able to evaluate motors and motor driver LSIs promptly and easily, including difficult-to-perform sequence evaluations and temperature evaluations, and can dramatically enhance the efficiency of stepping motor application development.

The basic version of the newly released RAGU series consists of three components: the RAGU-main1-EVK-001 main board that is the heart of the system, the RAGU-op1-EVK-001 option board, and the BD63725BEFV-EVK-002 stepping motor driver DUT board. As DUT boards for use with RAGU, ROHM will soon release products other than the BD63725BEFV. The application software and documents necessary to use RAGU can be downloaded from the ROHM website.
