The BM6337x series are new 600 V IGBT IPMs (Intelligent Power Modules) that simultaneously achieve industry-leading figures for low noise and low loss characteristics. Two packages are offered for each of four device types with different current ratings, for a lineup of eight new models.
The BM6337x series have been newly developed for power conversion in various inverters such as 3-phase AC 240 V AC servos for use in major household appliances such as air conditioners and washing machines, as well as for applications in smaller industrial equipment such as small-capacity motors for industrial robots.
The BM6337x series were developed in the midst of demands for energy conservation and expectations being placed on the appearance of power devices and modules such as IGBTs for power conversion with reduced power consumption, and with IGBT IPM development prioritizing low losses; as a result, however, noise characteristics are often worse, and so improvement of noise characteristics has also been sought.

BM6337x Series Features
The BM6337x series has three features related to the development background described above and original characteristics.
These are each explained in detail below. For product specifications, please refer to the “Specifications” page.
1. Simultaneous industry-leading low noise and low loss figures
The BM6337x series feature radiated emission reduced by 6 dB or more (peak value) compared with general products in this category through the soft recovery performance of internal FRDs (fast recovery diodes) and IGBT optimization. By achieving reduced noise performance that is among the best in the industry, it has become possible to consider simplification of the noise filters that have heretofore been necessary. Moreover, conduction losses and switching losses are diminished in a new generation of internal IGBTs, to provide power losses reduced by 6% (fc = 15 kHz) compared with conventional devices. By attaining some of the industry’s best low-noise and low-loss figures, the new products make possible reductions in emitted radiation and fewer components while promoting decreased power consumption of various equipment.
2. Greatly improved precision of temperature monitoring functions, with the possibility of elimination of an external thermistor
The precision of temperature monitoring of many general products in this category is ±5% (equivalent to 5°C), but the BM6337x series greatly improve of this, with a guaranteed precision of ±2% (at 90°C; equivalent to 2°C), on par with thermistors. As a result, it is possible to consider elimination of an external thermistor which in the past has been necessary for precise temperature monitoring, making possible a smaller number of components and fewer design stages.
3. Erroneous mounting can be detected using a function for product identification after mounting on a board
A product identification function has been added to the BM6337 series as a new function. Ordinarily, the model name of a module is stamped on the rear surface of a package, making it difficult to perform a check after board mounting. The BM6337x series models can be identified after mounting on a board by using an impedance measurement device. Thus it is possible to detect erroneous mounting of the product of another manufacturer that uses the same package or a model with an incorrect current rating.
