The BM6337x series are new 600 V IGBT IPMs (Intelligent Power Modules) that simultaneously achieve industry-leading figures for low noise and low loss characteristics. Two packages are offered for each of four device types with different current ratings, for a lineup of eight new models.

The BM6337x series have been newly developed for power conversion in various inverters such as 3-phase AC 240 V AC servos for use in major household appliances such as air conditioners and washing machines, as well as for applications in smaller industrial equipment such as small-capacity motors for industrial robots.

The BM6337x series were developed in the midst of demands for energy conservation and expectations being placed on the appearance of power devices and modules such as IGBTs for power conversion with reduced power consumption, and with IGBT IPM development prioritizing low losses; as a result, however, noise characteristics are often worse, and so improvement of noise characteristics has also been sought.

BM6337x Series Main Specifications

The BM6337x series are IMPs that integrate gate drivers, bootstrap diodes, IGBTs, and fast recovery diodes for regeneration in a single package.

The high-side IGBTs are driven by a high-voltage level shift circuit consisting of a high-side gate driver (HVIC) and bootstrap diodes. Because bootstrap diodes and a bootstrap diode current limiting function are incorporated, bootstrap diodes and current limiting resistors are unnecessary. An under-voltage-locked-out circuit (UVLO) is provided for floating control power supply.

The low-side IGBTs are driven by an LVIC. A short-circuit current protection circuit (SCP), control power supply under-voltage-locked-out circuit (UVLO), and thermal shutdown circuit (TSD) are provided, and the alarm output (FO) reports an error when a protection circuit is activated. The temperature of the LVIC is detected, converted into an analog voltage, and output (VOT).

Application Examples of BM6337x Series

The BM6337x series have been developed for inverters used with motors in home appliances and industrial equipment. Below are examples of applications and a basic application circuit example.

  • ・Inverter devices for AC 100 to 240 Vrms (DC 400 V or lower) motor control
  • ・Inverters for air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and other major home appliances
  • ・Inverters for smaller industrial equipment such as small-capacity motors used in industrial robots
  • ・Other compressor or motor-equipped applications in which inverter control is required
