The ROHM lineups of motor driver ICs feature high efficiency and reliability supporting broad ranges of voltages, currents and packages, and pin-compatible products are also available.

Moreover, for brushed DC motors and for 3-phase brushless motors with Hall sensors, drivers and predrivers with features and specifications for automotive use are available, capable of driving at anywhere from small to large currents. These products have passed the AEC-Q100 Grade 1 and Grade 2 stress tests.

3-Phase Brushless DC Motor Driver and Predriver:
BD63035EFV-M, BD63030EKV-C

The BD63035EFV-M 3-phase brushless DC motor driver and the BD63030EKV-C predriver achieve low noise and low vibrations through adoption of a sinusoidal commutation method in a 3 Hall sensor type design.

The BD63035EFV-M motor driver incorporates Pch+Nch DMOS devices on a single chip. This is a 3-phase sinusoidal brushless motor driver with a power supply voltage rating of 36 V and an output current rating of 1.5 A (2 A peak). A driving signal is generated from input Hall sensor signals, and PWM driving using an input control signal is possible. Moreover, speed can be controlled using the power supply voltage as well. The product incorporates various types of control and protection circuitry, and so can be utilized in a variety of applications. A compact 6.50×6.40×1.00 (mm) HTSSOP-B20 package is used, facilitating mounting in smaller motors.

The BD63030EVK-C is a predriver for use with air conditioner blower motors, battery cooling fan motors and the like, which drives external Nch+Nch MOSFETs. Because it is equipped with a speed command signal link type advance angle control function (maximum 30 degrees), driving with high precision is possible. Further, using rotation rate feedback control, variation in air quantity due to fluctuations in external pressure is suppressed. Because the lock protection time, overcurrent limit detection value, overvoltage protection detection value, external component temperature detection values, and startup time can be set through external component constants, various motor control modes can be accommodated.

Brushed DC Motor Driver (H-Bridge type):
BD16933EFV-C, BD16939EFV-C, BD16938EFV-C

Multichannel brushed DC motor drivers (H-bridge type) control multiple drivers with a single control signal (SPI communication); these motor drivers enable reductions in the number of signal lines and components. Below are indicated the number of motors that can be driven for a given number of channels, the driving conditions, and major applications.

Whereas in the past external resistors were used for adjustment, in this predriver the efficiency and EMI characteristic optimization can be set by SPI. Through use of this function, fewer adjustment components are needed, and ECU compactness and design efficiency can be improved.

The advantages of predrivers mean that independent control is possible, making this device a good fit with various control systems.
