In order to understand and evaluate the characteristics of the switching regulator, it is important to know the fundamentals of the switching regulator.
In this section, we review the types of switching; the operating principles of the step-down converter; differences between synchronous and asynchronous controls which represent major control methods; boot strap, which is a mechanism for improving efficiency; feedback control method for output regulation, that is, a method that governs the operation of the regulator; PWM and PFM which are output voltage regulation methods, and IC Standards and power supply properties which represent critical characteristics.
＜Overview of Characteristics and Evaluation Method of Switching Regulators＞
・ In order to evaluate the performance of a switching regulator, we need to understand the properties and basics of the switching regulator.
・ To facilitate the evaluation process, it is useful to be able to visualize current and voltage waveforms in addition to knowing the underlying operating principles and mechanisms.
